Join members of the Memphis Federation of the Blind as we walk to raise awareness about white cane safety and the impact of diabetes on vision loss, during our annual Douglas C. Hall Step-a-thon. Step for blind individuals who can live the lives they want, step in the memory of someone you’ve lost due to diabetes, cancer, or other illnesses, but most importantly step for yourself. So, come run, walk, or step with us on Saturday, October 12, 2019 from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the Hickory Hill Community Center located at 3910 Ridgeway Road. There will be light refreshments, music, and door prizes to help you keep moving! All funds raised during this event will go to support the programs of the Memphis Federation of the Blind in helping blind individuals reach for their dreams and live the lives they want. The National Federation of the Blind is a 501C3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to advance the general welfare of the blind in or community, state, and nation. The Memphis Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and their dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back. Douglas Hall believed in our philosophy and his wish was for all blind individuals in his community to become fit and active and receive the skills to reach their full potential. We will celebrate his life and legacy during this event. Come show your support one step at a time! Registration for the Douglas C. Hall Step-a-thon is $5.00 and can be paid in advance or at the door.
