Nashville Chapter Board Member of the Month-August 2019

Board Member Of The Month

Name: Jana Jackson

How long been a member of our chapter? 3 years

State and city born: Milan, TN

One word to describe you as a child: Imaginative

Were you born blind or lost sight later on in life? Born blind

What are your career goals or interests?

I am a gospel singer, travel advisor, and voice actor.  My goal is to establish my travel agency as a place for unique faith-based vacations that involve great music, worship and fun!  As far as my music is concerned, I want to bless as many folks as I can!  It's a great way to give people hope in a crazy world!

What do you do for fun?

I love to read, and I am a big movie buff.  I also love checking out new restaurants, trying a new type of cuisine or a favorite that I haven't had for a while.

If you could meet anyone, who would it be, dead or alive, and what would be the first thing that you would say to them?

I would love to meet the actor, Tyler Perry, because his amazing story has always inspired me.  I would tell him about some of my "Madea moments" that would make a great scene in one of his movies… Ask me about the time I shut down the entire Greyhound bus station when I couldn't get help from the staff in a timely manner.  Let's just say I was NOT about to be left in that dreadful place! LOL!

What drew you to get involved with the Nashville NFB chapter?

I really appreciate the leadership and the balanced approach to independence.  I love being a part of something that helps blind people to learn to dream a bigger dream for themselves!

How have the meetings and association with our chapter benefited you?

I have benefited greatly by spending time with like-minded people who want to make a difference.  I enjoy the camaraderie and the exchange of ideas about how to accomplish tasks easily and independently.

What would you tell anyone who has never been to one of our meetings and may be hesitant about attending?

I promise you'll have a blast, and you will be welcomed with open arms.  By the end of the first meeting, you'll feel like you're part of the family!
