    The Memphis Federation of the blind continues our work of almost fifty-five years of advocating, educating, and supporting individuals who are blind or have low vision in our community. Advocacy and Education are the cornerstones of what we do, ensuring that people with sight loss can work, live, and play alongside neighbors. However, this work cannot be done by one individual or organization alone, but instead it takes the hard work of many chipping away at it over time to eliminate misconceptions and breakdown barriers. Dining in the Dark is a fundraising event for the Memphis chapter of the National Federation of the Blind. The proceeds from this event will continue our advocacy efforts, educate the public about the abilities of the blind, and hold in-person trainings for seniors experiencing vision loss. Often, seniors are excluded from the service systems and programs currently available. Health insurance does not cover the cost of the technology they need to maintain their independence. The Memphis Federation of the Blind knows with the right training and support that they can live the lives they want.

 

Your support of the Dining in the Dark event will allow the Memphis Federation of the Blind to educate the community about the abilities of their blind neighbors, while providing a brief experience of what it is like to dine with sight loss. Additionally, sponsorships will pay for the venue (Biscuits and Jams), event programs, and to offset dinner costs for special guests. This event offers an opportunity for people with and without sight loss to join together to make a difference.
